See my other auctions for more great related historic & collectible items! 1905 Blue German Jasperware Bisque Plaque Woman Dancing with Winged Cupids Putti Cherubs Angels - probably Volkstedt. Germany & Italy fine porcelain be sure to check my other listings. A stunningly beautiful German blue jasperware bisque wall hanging plaque. Features a rich blue base hue, embellished with embossed repousse relief white toned, very baroque Neo-Classical Greco Roman scene of lovely young maiden dancing with three winged cherubs encompassed with Art Nouveau style grape leaves & clusters. This plaque is done in the manner of Volkstedt or Schafer & Vater. We have seen this scarce plaque before with "Germany" stamped on reverse. Both of these German companies were known to not always stamp their pieces uniformly with complete markings, so the markings are generally random with whatever got stamped, got stamped at that time, & whatever didn't -- didn't. Clearly they sent them out for export all over the world...

Many often confuse the German Jasperware pieces as English Wedgewood. This one is confirmed German & most likely out of the aforementioned two, it would be Volkstedt. In Germany, this style was called "Jugendstil, " or the young, new style.

The organic, flowing design here is also reminiscent of the 18th C. Rococo period, whose influences are evident in the Nouveau style. This antique plaque was likely made by Volkstedt, Triebner, Ens & Co. Volkstedt is located near the famous city of Rudolstadt, and the porcelain heritage of this region began in the 18th Century. In fact, hard-paste porcelain was re-discovered in this area independently of the experiments at Meissen, in Saxony, Germany.

Porcelain production began at Volkstedt in 1760, predating French factories such as Limoges. The exquisite detail work is breath-taking with amazing delicate hands & fingers & incredible 3-Dimensional facial details to all 4 faces!!! CONDITION: APPEARS FLAWLESS & READY TO PROUDLY HANG!

NO CHIPS, CRACKS, BREAKS, OR REPAIRS. ANY INCONSISTENCIES NI BLUE SURFACE ARE AS TO BE EXPECTED FACTORY AS-MADES.
